Think of the phrase Pump It Up! and see in your mind’s eye an image of someone inflating a tire.
The width of the tire represents how much you do or do not ‘pack’ as much relevant information into your:
- photos
- post/blog content
- mp3 files
- online sites where you post your songs.
I could have used a fitness analogy but I want to use the tire/wheel for when I talk about branding
For the first of these posts in the PUMP IT UP series, I want to discuss the fourth aspect and focus on Soundcloud.
Now that I’m over the hive of activity around the release of Pocketful of Sand I wanted to share a few insights you may find helpful. I’m going to assume you’re uploading to Soundcloud a song you have recently released.
BASIC INFO
Enter a title and double check the url nomenclature is relevant. Example: I changed mine to say ‘pocketful-sand’ instead of ‘pocketful-of-sand-1’. Use the additional tags to the full.

DESCRIPTION
When posting a song, use the ‘Description’ field to the full. Describe the song (credits, background, why you wrote what you wrote, musicians etc), in short, be human, be real. Include video link and add lyrics. TIP: add your videos to a new or existing playlist on your YouTube channel. Once done, go to your video within the playlist and while it is selected, click on the ’share’ link. Result: when folks click on the video link they’ll a) see your song playing but b) will see the next song on the playlist thus raising awareness of your other material and, therefore, keeping them on your channel for longer.

METADATA
Add in a Buy-link. If you use an iTunes link, the wording under the song will say ‘Buy on iTunes’ even though the ‘Buy-link title’ field said ‘Buy’. Don’t forget to add your ISRC code and release date. The other data I included should be self-explanatory.
Please share this with friends if you think they’ll find this post useful.
